School is getting closer by the day for Alexandrias youngest citizens, and those children turning 5 years of age on or before September 30, 2009 can register for kindergarten for the 2009-2010 school year starting April 13, according to Alexandria City Public Schools.
Children who speak English and were born in the U.S. need to register with their home school even if they will attend a different school this fall, the schools said. An attendance zone locator can be found on the ACPS website (www.acps.k12.va.us).
For children who need English-as-a-Second-Language services or are not U.S. citizens, registration should go through the schools ESL office.
Any child turning 6 on or before September 30 is required by law to attend school. If they are starting school as first-grade students, they should go through the same registration process as incoming kindergarteners.
