Alexandrias Little Leaguers finally got the weather to cooperate with their plans Saturday, with the sun also in attendance at the 2009 Opening Ceremonies held at Little Simpson Field. The festivities, postponed from the week before due to rainy weather, brought together the citys young ballplayers for a little pomp and circumstance in the middle of a full day of games.
With all the teams suited up, lining the infield in a dazzling array of colors, league organizers recognized the 9- and 10-year-old city all-stars (center) who won Virginias District 4 competition last year. Following the playing of the National Anthem and the league photo, the teams dispersed, returning to competition at fields throughout Alexandria.
