To the editor:
In March, Alexandria Mayor William Euille said that, [he] would be absolutely opposed to relocating Guantanamo prisoners to Alexandria. Sheriff Dana Lawhorne added that federal security requirements for housing suspects could overwhelm the system if multiple detainees are brought here. On Saturday, Rep. Jim Moran suggested that, Alexandrians are civic-minded people [who] are ready to do their duty if it serves the greater good. Mr. Moran was specifically referencing his constituents willingness to accept suspected terrorists into our community so that we could do our part to uphold the American values of justice and the rule of law. Some have accused Mr. Moran of being out of touch with his constituents. I think that we now have to ask whether he is in touch with reality, as well.
