Alexandria Police are investigating a burglary and sexual assault that occurred Sunday, May 31, at 1 a.m. on the 5700 block of Dunster Court in the citys West End.
A female resident awoke to find a man looking in the window of her 7-year-old daughters room. The suspect fled once seen.
Later that morning, the mother called detectives back to the scene and reported that the suspect touched her child inappropriately. Detectives believe that the suspect entered the room through an unlocked window.
The female resident could not provide a description of the suspect because it was too dark in the house, police spokesman Jody Donaldson said.
We dont have any new information, Donaldson said. Its still ongoing.
Despite the lacking description, police have upped patrols in the neighborhood and have been talking to neighbors, urging anyone to come forward if they have seen suspicious activity.
On Monday, police encouraged residents to lock their doors and windows before going to bed, noting that criminal activity can greatly be reduced by taking away the opportunity.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section of the Alexandria Police Department at 703-838-4444 or the Crime Solvers tip line at 703-838-4858. Detectives would like to remind witnesses that they have the right to remain anonymous.
