The Alexandria Little League Juniors All-Star Team fell to all-stars from the Warwick (Newport News) league the eventual state champions in the Virginia state semi-finals late last month. Warwick went on to win the Virginia State Championship.
Alexandria was one of 16 teams to compete in the state championship tournament in Middlesex County from July 24 to July 29. The team, comprised of 13- and 14-year-olds from the city, advanced from the first round after their upset win against the Tuckahoe (Richmond) league all-stars 3-2 Tuckahoe has more than 1,600 kids in their little league organization, compared to Alexandria which has around 350 kids. In the quarterfinals, Alexandria defeated Grottos Little League 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals, where they ended up losing to Warwick.
