Tucker Teacher Workshop Day Scheduled for August 26
School will not be insession for students at Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School on Wednesday, August26, because of a Teacher Workshop Day. School officials ask that affectedfamilies note this holiday because the change was made to the school calendarafter the calendar magnets were printed.
ACPS Health and Immunization Fair Set for September2
On September 2, the ACPSSchool Health Services Department hosts the free ACPS Student Health andImmunization Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at James K. Polk Elementary School.
This health andimmunization day is meant to help ACPS students in kindergarten through gradefive meet their health entry requirements before the first day of school.School-entry physicals, immunizations and tuberculosis screenings needed toattend school will be available free of charge to the city’s public schoolstudents. A parent or guardian should accompany the child and have ready thestudent’s immunization records, health history and any allergy information.
The fair is a collaborativeeffort involving ACPS school health services, the city’s health department andInova’s Partnership for Healthier Kids. Participants are encouraged topre-register for the event by calling 703-698-2550.
ESL/ELL Registration Hours Posted for Peak Season
From now through September11 is the peak registration period for the English as a Second Language /English Language Learning office.
This registration is forstudents who were born outside the United States with the exception of fullyEnglish-proficient United States citizens born abroad and students,regardless of citizenship or country of birth, who may need the support of theESL/ELL program because there is a language other than English spoken in theirhome environment.
The ESL/ELL office is openfor new registrations during this period from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Mondaythrough Friday. The office will close for lunch from 12:30 to 1 p.m. It isrecommended that families with pending documents may bring them to complete anearlier registration between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
