Posting remarkable gains since a year ago, the T.C. Williams golf team ended up finishing sixth in the two-day Patriot District Championship at Twin Lakes. The Titans total of 661 was 73 strokes better than their performance in 2008.
Sophomore Zach Veshancey paced the Titans, shooting 80 and 78 over the two-day tourney. Senior Matt Kilby posted back-to-back 82s, sophomore Garrett Kennedy finished with an 80 and an 88 and freshman Chris Darr contributed with a career-best round of 81 on day two.
Veshanceys two-day total of 158 was good enough to make the Northern Region Championship this Tuesday and Wednesday the first Titan to make the regional tournament in at least five years, according to T.C. coach Dee Marrara.
Lake Braddock was the runaway winner, finishing with a total of 608, some 21 strokes better than second-place West Springfield. T.C. topped West Potomac (718) and Lee (727) to finish sixth.
