On February 17, the City of Alexandria announced it had received more than $9 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve transit services in major traffic corridors on the city’s east and west sides.
One of the grants, totaling $8.5 million, is to fund construction of an exclusive transit-way in the median of Route 1 between Monroe Avenue and East Glebe Road near Potomac Yard, according to information released by the city.
The second grant of $670,000 is earmarked for the planning of new facilities to assist work in the Beauregard-Van Dorn corridor.
