Thumbs Up to the Alexandria residents who managed to clear their sidewalks of snow after the massive storm last weekend.Though shoveling is a difficult and even dangerous task for some, clear walkways have enabled residents to get to and from grocery and drug stores without driving. Thank you!
Thumbs Up to the many small heroes of the severe snowstorms: the Jackson 20 employees who spent the weekend in the Hotel Monaco so they could provide food to customers, the Meals-on-Wheels volunteers who braved bad roads to get meals to those shut in, private contractors like Harry Braswell who have charged minimal prices to help people dig out houses and cars and the city workers and contractors who have labored mightily to clear our roads.
Thumbs Down to anybody who unnecessarily took to the streets under dangerous conditions, hindering emergency personnel and endangering others during two of the worst blizzards in Alexandria’s history.
Thumbs Down to President Barack Obama for jinxing the Washington area by calling D.C. weather wimpy!
