The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the use of a scam apparatus on a Wachovia Bank ATM after its discovery last month at the bank’s 3694 King St. branch.
On February 28, at about 1:30 p.m., a technician found a “skimming device” on the ATM machine, which has already been tied to more than $60,000 in losses for bank customers, according to a police spokesperson.
The investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking for anyone who used this particular ATM machine on February 28 to check their account information and make sure no unauthorized charges have been made to their accounts.
Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to call Detective David Hoffmaster at 703-838-5002 or the Crime Solvers tip line at 703-838-4858. Witnesses can remain anonymous.
