Candidates for Virginia’s 8th District Congressional seat will face off on May 13 for a business-focused debate moderated by Alexandria Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Tina Leone.

Incumbent Rep. James Moran (D) and candidates Matthew Berry (R), Chris Hubbard (R), Ron Mitchell (D) and Patrick Murray (R) have confirmed that they will participate in the debate.

Leone will ask the candidates questions posed by members of the business community from across the 8th District.

“Creating jobs and developing a sustainable economic future for our region are front-and-center in the minds of business leaders throughout our region,” Leone said. “We look forward to collaborating with chambers from across our region and to present candidates with the questions and concerns of local employers.”

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce and the Mount Vernon-Lee and Springfield Chambers of Commerce, are sponsoring the debate, which will take place at the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City.

Virginia’s 8th Congressional District covers Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, and part of Fairfax County. The filing deadline for candidates is April 9 and the primary election will be held on June 8. The general election is November 2.

“It is essential that the important questions of the business community be answered by our federal representatives and by those who seek to represent us,” Leone said. “This debate will accomplish that, and we are looking forward to an engaging discussion.”
