Alexandria Police arrested 21-year city employee Warren Leach of Woodbridge on Monday for embezzling at least $3,500 by selling a city-owned tractor and trailer for cash.
The 21-year employee of the general services division allegedly committed the felony about a year ago, according to court documents. It was not until January, when the city received an anonymous tip, that Leachs crime was discovered.
Obviously the city takes this seriously, said Alexandria director of communications Tony Castrilli. We notified the police immediately and an investigation was open as soon as the city was aware.
A polices spokesman said the equipment, estimated to be worth between $8,000 and $9,000, was to be auctioned.
