Chadwicks
The reputation that Alexandria has for being a medium-sized city with a small town feel comes from well-established restaurants like Chadwicks at 203 The Strand. Located near the Potomac River and the lower end of King Street, tourists and residents alike seek out the cozy dining establishment for its great American food, ambience, and hosts and wait-staff that make everyone feel at home. For more than three decades, Chadwicks has welcomed a wide range of patrons from couples to families to old friends gathering at the bar. With the onset of milder weather, the sidewalk dining tables have become extremely popular although that has not diminished the demand for the dark paneled booths, the well-situated tables upstairs or the sunny atrium. There are no undesirable tables at Chadwicks whether one is on a date or dining with the family.

At Chadwicks, children happily color with the crayons or busily try to solve the puzzles or play the games on the childrens menu. The popular Saturday and Sunday brunch features new extended hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Besides pancakes, waffles, omelets and French toast, there are brunch specials and variations on the typical fare like Eggs Benedict with ham, smoked salmon, filet mignon, or crab cakes.

A special selection of brunch drinks is served at excellent prices. The regular menu is extensive with dishes that never disappoint. Seafood lovers are enthusiastic that Chadwicks serves fresh fish every day. Meat lovers swear that the steak, burgers and meat loaf are the best. At the same time, vegetarians are pleased that they have many choices on the menu. For those with food allergies, the kitchen makes every effort to be accommodating. Monday through Friday each week, there are different specials on offer.

Many Alexandrians have a favorite Chadwicks specials night and dine there weekly. Chadwicks offers generous half-price Angus, turkey or veggie burgers throughout the day on Mondays. Other specials include pot roast on Tuesday, meat loaf and mashed potatoes every Wednesday, turkey and stuffing on Thursdays and fish and chips on Friday. Although the wine list is not lengthy, it is diverse. In addition, there is an extensive selection of American craft-brews and imported beer. For those who seek a mixed drink, cocktails are on offer.

Alexandrias restaurants have mostly closed their doors for the evening by 11 p.m., but not Chadwicks. The kitchen is still bustling at that hour and happily serving dinner until midnight Sunday through Thursday and 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
