The fate of the T.C. WILLIAMS season hung in the balance last night after the Times deadline. The Titans (9-11) were scheduled to host an all-important Patriot District first-round playoff game against Lee at 6:30 at Simpson Field. A win would not advance the season just one game but two, as the four league semifinalists continue to the regional competition, win or lose.
Last Monday, between the regular season-ending loss to Lake Braddock and the pending playoff game, the Titans got a boost of recognition with the All-Patriot District honors. Despite the continued dominance of schools like West Springfield and Lake Braddock, T.C. landed senior slugger Matt Kilby and junior catcher Trav Clark on the districts first team.
Seniors Chris Cattaneo and Rob Mannel made the second team, while Alex Goldfarb, Nick Severini, Tim Trout and Aaron Tovski earned honorable mention.
BISHOP IRETON saw its season end last Thursday with an 8-2 loss to St. Johns in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference playoffs. The Cardinals (4-22) won their opening round game against St. Marys Ryken but could not extend the playoff magic to another game.
The Saints of ST. STEPHENS / ST. AGNES also had their season come to an end last Thursday with a 9-2 loss to St. Albans in the second round of the Interstate Athletic Conference playoffs. Unable to recreate last years success that saw them knock off the then-top seed Bulldogs, the Saints missed out on a chance to repeat as tournament champs. St. Albans, meanwhile, went on to lose to Landon 6-5 and miss out on the post-season crown again after a dominating regular season campaign.
