Alexandria police conducted two Driving While Intoxicated enforcement efforts earlier this month to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers.

From 10 p.m. on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Sunday, police stopped vehicles and checked drivers along the 200 block of West Glebe Road to ensure that their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Approximately 151 motorists passed through the checkpoint, according to the Alexandria Police Department. Officers arrested three drivers for DWI and issued 17 summonses and six violation warnings for miscellaneous traffic offenses.

Two weeks earlier, Alexandria police conducted a roaming DWI enforcement from 8:30 p.m. on May 8 to 6:30 a.m. on May 9.  Police stopped vehicles that had been observed committing traffic infractions and drivers were checked to ensure that their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.

During the citywide enforcement effort, two arrests were made for DWI, 44 summonses were issued for miscellaneous traffic offenses and 30 warnings were granted for other traffic violations, according to police.
