PAINT ALEXANDRIA 2010 The Art Leagues Paint Alexandria is an annual all-media open-air event. Join Art League instructors as they visually explore and interpret historic Old Town. Sessions with different instructors are held throughout the day in a variety of media including painting, drawing and photography. Artists, art appreciators, and the creatively curious alike may attend as many sessions as they wish. The public is encouraged to view the artists at work. Event maps marking locations throughout Old Town are available at The Art League Gallery and online. Admission is Free.

ECOVOCE CONCERT The EcoVoce Ensemble will present its multidisciplinary concert and arts event, Breathing Naturally: Music, Poetry and Art of Women Inspired by Nature, as part of Virginias statewide celebration of women in the arts. Performed by Denise Freeland, soprano; Susan Hayes, flute; Narciso Solero, piano; and Ruth Baja Williams, poet. Also featuring a gallery of related nature images by local women artists. Highlights include musical works composed by Jane Tavernier, Jamie K. Sims, Winifred Hyson, and a set of Haiku miniatures for soprano that will incorporate multimedia. Suggested donation is $10.

SESSIONS GESTURES These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. We dont supply easels only plenty of chairs but you are welcome to bring your own if you want to use one. These two-hour sessions are composed primarily of a series of dynamic 1-5 minute poses. One or two favorite poses may be revisited for 10-15 minutes at the end of each session. Admission: $6 for members and $8 for non-members.

The three-hour short/long pose sessions start with some short 5 minute warm-up poses and progressively move into longer poses lasting 10-45 minutes. YMCA ALEXANDRIAS COMMUNITY WELLNESS DAY The YMCA Alexandria will host a community wellness event. The YMCA encourages everyone, especially kids and families, to participate in Community Wellness Day, which will help fight childhood obesity. It includes family games and activities, family nutrition information from Whole Foods, a cycling and body pump class, and more activities in the XRcade, where children play electronic physical activity games. Admission and parking are free.
