BENEFIT SHOPPING NIGHT Ten Thousand Villages is hosting a benefit shopping night. 15% of all purchases will be donated to the Childrens Home Society and Family Services (CHSFS) to support their project Journey of Hope, which matches older or physically disabled Chinese children with adoptive families. The Alexandria store is partnering with two other Ten Thousand Villages stores in the D.C. region (Bethesda, Rockville) to host the shopping night. Admission is FREE.

HYPERBOLIC CROCHET CORAL REEF PROJECT Recurring weekly on Thursday. The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Project is a fiber art exhibition whose mission is to raise awareness of the plight of the worlds coral reefs through the tactile pleasures of handicraft. As part of the exhibition, our local community will have the opportunity to build a satellite reef this summer that will be exhibited at the Sant Ocean Hall in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History this fall. Join fibre space on Thursday nights every week to make your own piece of reef. Admission is FREE.

RELIGIOUS ARTS FESTIVAL Geared for small churches but open to all will be held at Virginia Theological Seminary. The vision of the Arts Festival is to celebrate the arts in small churches, as a way to give them further mission and vitality. Exhibits by liturgical artists, workshops and presentations, and opportunities for lots of participation by those who attend will provide a day full of stimulation, and learning, and fun in many different ways. A featured participant will be the Rev. John Bell, a minister in the Church of Scotland and leader of the music and worship resource group of the Iona Community of Scotland. On the day of the arts festival, lunch will be served for $5 in the seminary refectory and free refreshments will be available through the day.

PARKER GRAY ROUNDTABLE COMMUNITY DAY Learn about the Parker-Gray Roundtable and get to know your neighbors at an old-fashioned block party. CIVIL WAR CAMP DAY AND SKIRMISH Ft. Ward Museum and Historic Site is hosting Alexandrias largest Civil War event of the year. Event includes a tactical skirmish, Civil War artillery demonstration, Union and Confederate camps, drills, food preparation scenario, medical impressions and civilian interpretations. Admission is $5 per adult and $10 for families with children.
