Clean and Beautiful Alexandria, an organization dedicated to beautifying the streets of Old Town, sprung into action last weekend when about 80 volunteers planted ornamental grass and flowers, watered plants and removed litter and weeds from storefronts and home facades in Old Town on Saturday and Sunday.
Using materials provided by John Ariail and Rob Kaufman, volunteers got down and dirt to improve the look of the streets for passers by. Afterward, participants enjoyed lunch from Bittersweet Cafe.
Clean and Beautiful Alexandria is a volunteer based project supported by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, the American Horticultural Society and the Alexandria Times. The overarching objective of Clean and Beautiful Alexandria is to increase the cleanliness and overall beauty of the commercial areas comprising King Street and the surrounding areas.
