Thumbs Up to the Alexandria Aces for their 9-4 opening night win last Friday. The Aces, who play at Frank Mann Field on Commonwealth Avenue, are part of the Cal Ripken summer league, one of numerous summer baseball leagues that give college players a chance to show their skills with and against wooden bats (metal bats are used in college competition), the league offers a quality level of baseball right here in Alexandria. The Nationals arent the only game in town!

Thumbs Up to Stephen Strasburg for the absolute electricity he generated in his major league debut Tuesday night at Nationals Park. It felt like a seminal moment for the entire Washington metro area. It was unsurpassed excitement for a baseball game. Take your kids to see this guy!

Thumbs Down to the thief who stole a computer bag filled with equipment from a South Royal Street residence. There have been a number of strange burglaries lately in Alexandria. Vandals are taking petty theft to a new low.
