For the third month in a row, Alexandria home sales have increased in all three categories single-family houses, condos and townhouses as compared to the same period last year, according to the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors monthly report.

Townhouses led the pack for June, with an 18 percent increase to 84 units sold. The median sales price fell by 1 percent to $525,000. They were followed by condos, with an 11 percent climb to 94, and a 1 percent median price gain to $263,250. Single-family homes followed, with a 5 percent sales increase to 44, and an 8 percent median price hike to $686,000.

The same positive pattern was seen throughout Northern Virginia, including Fairfax and Arlington. Even after the homebuyers tax credit expired on April 30, the housing market has been rolling on. Sales actually rose by 8.5 percent in May, followed by a modest 0.9 percent decline for June.
