Rep. Jim Moran (D-8) headed to Afghanistan Sunday afternoon, according to his Facebook page.
We’re leaving from Andrews Air Force Base for Afghanistan now, stated Moran. I know I will have much to report when we return.
Calls to Morans press secretary were not returned, a common and cautious policy when federal officials travel to a warzone, according to a former communications director for a Democratic member of congress.
In July Moran voted against a supplemental appropriations bill to fund the ongoing war.
At this point, the future of Afghanistan can only be determined by the Afghan people, he said last month.
Moran did not indicate an agenda for his visit but mentioned a soldier from his district who recently died in the war.
As we take off, I can’t help but think of the young Ronald Rodriguez this 26 years old soldier who grew up in Falls Church, lost his life last week in Afghanistan.
