


Thumbs up to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon winner, Deresse Deniboba, in only 1:04:44. Thumbs up also to second and third place winners, Tesfaye Senduku and Isaac Birir respectively. It is an incredible accomplishment to run 13.1 miles in just over an hour.

Thumbs down to the thieves that have used skimming devices on local ATM machines. Why not take all of the ingenuity it takes to create such a device, not to mention the time and energy, and develop a successful and legitimate business of their own?

Thumbs Up to the Alexandria School Board for deciding not to lobby the federal government in favor of the ill-named DREAM Act that would, among other things, reward those who came to the United States illegally with a path to citizenship simply by attending school. Our local school board should worry about test scores and graduation rates, not federal immigration policy.

Thumbs down to the criminal who added insult to injury by setting fire to a car that he or she stole earlier in the night. A poor restaurant patron went into an establishment on South Pickett Street on September 12 and emerged later to find his car gone. The car was found the next morning in Maryland, torched
