After a humiliating loss to Robinson Secondary School to begin the football season, T.C. Williams took their revenge out on Mount Vernon High School Saturday.
Though the 1-1 Titans were far from perfect, they left the 0-2 Majors bruised and beaten, 45-14, in a game littered with penalties, miscues and turnovers. The team also saw the return of senior linebacker Deontre Sanders, who had been sidelined while recovering from a mild concussion suffered during the preseason.
Deontre is a heck of a player, strong and fast, said head coach Dennis Randolph. He credited Sanders with slowing Mount Vernons running game to a stop. You just cant take hits like those Sanders dished out and keep going, Randolph said.
Sanders was one of several starters the Titans went without a week ago. It was a frustrating game to watch from the sidelines, he said. Getting back onto the field was a long time coming for Sanders.
It was amazing, it felt right to get back and help my team, he said. It was tough to watch and know [last week] I couldnt go out and help my team.
Star senior offensive lineman Jay Whitmire, out with a sprained foot, did not play. Though his cast was removed, he remains questionable for next week.
The Titans travel to Oakton High School next Thursday.
