Ebbin would face Krupicka in primary for 30th District Senate seat

Del. Adam Ebbin (D-49) would run for a Virginia Senate seat in November if 76-year-old Sen. Patsy Ticer (D-30), a Richmond staple, decides against running again, Ebbin confirmed Tuesday.

Ebbins announcement comes a day after Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka confirmed he would vie for the seat should Ticer decide to retire.

Democrats are the minority in the General Assemblys lower house, but enjoy the majority in the upper house, where Ebbin believes he can be more effective.

Ive been able to deliver in the House and I think I can do more in the state Senate, Ebbin said. Id rather be one of 40 than one of 100.

Ebbin, who said Krupicka told him he planned to make a bid a while ago, has not made any official moves toward running, choosing instead to focus on the current legislative session in Richmond, he said.

My focus right now is on the legislative session and working for my constituents, Ebbin said.

He is working on legislation to eradicate bullying and exploring solutions to get street cars to the citys West End, Ebbin said, but his campaign would draw on his legislative experience as a delegate in the 49th District, which includes parts of Arlington and Fairfax, with a sliver of Alexandria.
