A city man died this morning, succumbing to injuries suffered during a midnight hit-and-run at the intersection of King Street and Park Center Drive, police said. 
    
Melbourne Clyde Leach Jr., 26, was struck by the vehicle while crossing King Street about 12:10 a.m. Authorities transported Leach to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he died. 
    
Though the driver fled the scene and remains out of custody, witnesses described the vehicle as a black, four-door sedan – possibly a Lincoln Town Car. 
    
The hit-and-run is under investigation by the departments crash reconstruction team. Authorities urge anyone with information about the fatal accident contact the Alexandria Police Department at 703-838-4444.
