It was a short and sweet public hearing for speakers advocating naming a park on Jefferson Davis Highway after the late Alexandria activist and Lynhaven resident Ruby Tucker.
Tuckers longtime friend Rosa Byrd was so choked up that barely a few radiant words came out before she resigned herself from the microphone.
Eugene Tucker, Rubys husband of 46 years who knew Tuckers bustling nature, was more to the point.
I was home a lot by myself so I appreciate what youre doing for her, Tucker said.
The council unanimously voted to name the park at 3500 Jefferson Davis Highway in honor of Ruby Tucker.
Not only was Ruby the heart and soul of Lynhaven, but the heart and soul of this city because she was an advocate for so many causes, said Mayor Bill Euille.
