Ten days after T.C. Williams overcame conference rival Annandale to win the Patriot District championship game, the Titans will square off against the Atoms again this time for the regional title.

T.C. earned a spot in the AAA Northern Region championship game after squeaking by No. 11 Herndon 64-61, Saturday night. Despite a lackluster start the score was 22-22 heading into halftime the Titans strung together two furious quarters to come away with the win.

Seniors Jamal Pullen and Rick Matthews led the team in scoring. Pullen, a forward, found the net for 15 points. Matthews, a rising star for the Titans since the postseason began, earned 14.

Now the 23-5 Titans will prepare for a second showdown with the Atoms. Annandale squelched T.C.’s playoff dreams more than a year ago, in the opening round of the Patriot District tournament. The Titans got a taste of vengeance when they pummeled the Atoms 69-56 February 18.

As the last teams standing in the Northern Region, the Titans and Atoms earned berths to the state tournament. T.C. and Annandale hit the court at 8 p.m., Monday night, to vie for the higher seed.
