A would-be burglar fled after a Powhatan Street homeowner heard the suspect attempting to steal his laptop about 9:46 a.m., March 21.

Police say the thief snuck in an unlocked back door while the resident was answering someone knocking at the front entrance of the 1200 block home. The burglar took off empty handed after the victim was alerted to his presence, officials said.

They did not see one another and authorities do not have a suspect description. They haven’t determined if the individual knocking at the front door is connected to the home invasion.
