A tough 2011 campaign came to a close for the Bishop Ireton Cardinals with a disappointing season-ending loss to Bishop OConnell on May 5.
    
OConnell topped 5-17 Ireton in a 9-3 drubbing to put away the Cardinals for the year. With a 0-14 conference record, the Cardinals will not move onto the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament as the Times erroneously reported a week ago.
    
Due to a rule change effective this year, the last place finisher does not make the final cut for the postseason tournament. Winless in the WCAC, the Cardinals season ended prematurely.
