Police say a belligerent man attacked a food cart at the intersection of Cameron and North Pitt streets after the vendor refused to give the man something to eat earlier this month.
The victim was pushing the cart about 4:48 p.m. on June 15 when a black man, 30 to 35 years old, approached him and asked for food, said Ashley Hildebrandt, department spokeswoman.
When the victim said no, the man grew aggressive and grabbed the carts umbrella, broke it and fled. Only the cart was damaged the victim was uninjured, Hildebrandt said.
Police cant confirm whether the food cart was coming from Market Square, where the city recently launched a new pilot program allowing restaurants to sell meals in the public space during the lunch rush.
