Alexandria police say vandals knocked over a 100 block Prince St. flagpole and stole the ornamental eagle atop the flagstaff late last month. 

An Old Town resident reported the vandalism about 11:24 a.m. July 6, according to police reports, though the crime occurred June 29, said Ashley Hildebrandt, department spokeswoman. 
    
Authorities dont know how they felled the flagpole. There were no witnesses and no surveillance footage of the incident, Hildebrandt said. 
    
The vandalism remains under investigation, though authorities have no suspect descriptions.
