Tim Hightower, a name familiar to many Alexandrians, has returned to the region he calls home to suit up for the Washington Redskins.
Heading into his fourth season in the NFL, the Alexandria native and running back learned last weekend he had been traded from the Arizona Cardinals to the Redskins in exchange for defensive end Vonnie Holliday.
Hightower cut his teeth in football playing for Episcopal High School, serving as captain of the varsity squad his senior year. He rushed for 1,083 yards in six games that year, scoring 12 touchdowns along the way.
After graduating in 2004, Hightower went on to play for the University of Richmond. Drafted in 2008, Hightower was picked 149th in the fifth round. He has 23 touchdowns in his professional career.
