Locals shine in Florida LAX tourney

Two future Cardinals and one soon-to-be Saint led the Alexandria/Northern Virginia-based Stars Gold under-15 team to a second place finish at the national lacrosse championships in Florida late last month.

Goalie Olivia Cole and midfielder Charlotte Sofield, both headed to Bishop Ireton in the fall, and defenseman Kathryn Cavallo, destined for St. Stephens and St. Agnes, battled through a three-day tournament in Orlando from July 20 to 21.

The local squad trumped a Bel Air team for a spot in the championship game, only to fall to the Long Island Yellow Jackets. They also faced squads from California, Florida and Georgia, finishing with a 6-1 tournament record.

For their on field performance, Cole, Sofield and Cavallo were all named to Lacrosse Magazines all-tournament team.
