Alexandria police arrested a juvenile allegedly caught in the act of vandalizing Mount Vernon Elementary School in the early morning hours of August 16. 

When officers responded to security alarms at the 2600 block Commonwealth Ave. school about 3:24 a.m., they found the minor exiting the building. Police say the juvenile did extensive damage to multiple rooms within the building after forcing his way inside. 

Officials did not estimate the cost of the damages. 

Nothing appeared to have been stolen during the incident, said Ashley Hildebrandt, department spokeswoman.
