Burglars took advantage of an Alexandria Station Apartments residents absentmindedness, using the keys she had left in her door to loot the unit.

City police say the 300 block S. Whiting St. resident forgot her keys en route to the grocery store September 6. She returned about 15 minutes later after realizing the mistake and found the keys missing and her apartment locked.

When she got into the residence, about 9:46 a.m., the victim discovered burglars had made off with her laptop valued at $650 as well as her keys, said Jody Donaldson, department spokesman. 

Though the incident remains under investigation, there were no witnesses, and police do not have suspect descriptions. Nothing else was missing, Donaldson said.
