After securing their second win of the season against St. Albans, the Episcopal Maroon fell narrowly to Richmond-based St. Christopher’s Saturday afternoon.
Episcopal jumped to an early lead after senior quarterback Austin de Butts hit wide receiver Johnny Bond for a 38-yard touchdown pass.
Though Episcopal’s Bobby Myers missed the point after kick, he made amends with a 29-yard field goal minutes later. Myers extended Episcopal’s lead to 12-0 in the second quarter, nailing a 27-yard field goal.
But the Saints hung tough and drove down the field in the third quarter to make it 12-7. When they pushed downfield again in the fourth, the Maroon couldn’t keep them out of the end zone.
When the game clock hit zero, the Saints were celebrating a 13-12 come-from-behind victory.
The Maroon, 1-1 in conference play and 2-4 overall, leave their campus to take on backyard rival St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes, 1-5, on Saturday before facing a nearly perfect 7-1 Bullis squad November 4. Their regular season comes to a close against Woodberry Forest on November 12.
