After a stunning 2-1 overtime loss to West Potomac to end the regular season, the T.C. Williams field hockey team couldn’t rebound against West Springfield in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Titans, 8-8-1 heading into the annual Patriot District postseason tournament, fell narrowly to the Spartans in a 1-0 loss. Despite making 14 saves, T.C. goalkeeper Meghan Boyle let one slip by to seal the deal for the higher-seeded Spartans in the October 18 showdown.

The defeat puts T.C., 2-5 in the conference, out of playoff contention. Third-seed West Springfield made it a round further, only to succumb to second-seed Lake Braddock in a 1-0 loss October 19.

Lake Braddock is advancing to the regional tournament after trumping South County 2-1 in the district tournament championship game.
