Children from Alexandria and the surrounding area benefited from the generosity of their neighbors last weekend when the Sheriff’s Office, residents and associations participated in coat drives.

Sheriff’s deputies distributed more than 75 coats in partnership with Operation Warm, which provides thousands of area children with warm coats each autumn.

Meanwhile, Pat Miller and the Del Ray Business Association delivered more than 200 new coats for 3- and 4-year-olds to the Child and Family Network Centers after Miller rallied the community to donate.

The American Hospital Association and its employees donated 62 new coats to the cause, while the office of Rep. Jim Moran (D-8) donated 18 and the Arlandria Chirilagua Business Association donated 10, according to a statement from DRBA.
