Alexandria authorities say one or more burglars broke into a 5500 block Ascot Court apartment and made off with backpacks without waking the sleeping victims.
How the burglars got into the apartment remains a mystery to city police, said Jody Donaldson, department spokesman. Residents reported the missing bags — which contained a laptop, electronic equipment and wallets with cash and credit cards — about 11:21 a.m. Sunday.
The bags were stolen from the living room, not far from where the three victims were fast asleep, said Donaldson. Police believe the break-in occurred sometime between 4 and 9 a.m. that same day.
There were no witnesses to the burglary, and authorities do not have suspect descriptions. The incident is under investigation.
