For the fourth consecutive year, the T.C. Williams girls cross country squad will compete in the Northern Region Championship after a fourth-place finish in the Patriot District tournament.
Sydney Schaedel and Shannon Symthe led the squad with fifth- and sixth- place finishes respectively in the annual local showdown October 26. Though runners Hannah Clark, Hannah Smythe and Grace Garrahan contributed in the team effort, Schaedel and Smythe were the squad’s sole medalists.
West Potomac won the girls competition outright, while West Springfield placed second and Lake Braddock earned third.
On the boys squad, Nick Brown, who finished in ninth place, and Anteneh Girma, who finished 10th, will continue running in the post season. Their team did not qualify as a whole and will not advance with them. Lake Braddock placed first in the team competition, with West Potomac, W.T. Woodson and West Springfield rounding out the pack.
The regional playoff tournament will be held at Burke Lake Park today at 3:15 p.m.
