Cardinals slip against Knights

The Bishop Ireton Cardinals saw the Bishop O’Connell Knights snatch victory out of their hands Friday despite a valiant effort at a comeback victory.

Down by three goals before the end of the first period, the Cardinals strung together a comeback. Nick Tangora’s quick shot on an assist by Stephen Gerke kept Ireton from going into the break scoreless.

They would not find the net again until the third period. As their offense got rolling, Tangora scored again, followed by Gerke’s first goal of the day.

But with the score tied up, O’Connell got the go-ahead goal with just minutes left to play. The heartbreaking defeat puts Ireton 1-1 on the season. The Cardinals routed DeMatha earlier in the season in a 9-2 victory.
