Four arrested on DWI charges

City police brought four motorists on driving while intoxicated charges after stepping up their efforts to combat drunk driving last weekend.

Officers stopped 154 vehicles during the roaming DWI enforcement crackdown, which began at 8:30 p.m. Saturday and ended at 6:30 Sunday morning. Drivers who committed traffic infractions were stopped and checked for drug or alcohol impairment, said Jody Donaldson, department spokesman.

Along with the four DWI arrests, police handed out 75 summonses for miscellaneous traffic offenses, he said.

In all, seven local officers and an emergency communications technician jointly conducted the operation.
