Anthropologie, Alexandria’s newest store dedicated to all things trendy in women’s clothing and accessories, will open on King Street by month’s end.
The chain has moved into the building formerly inhabited by JJ’s Hallmark at 610 King St. After 13 years serving customers on the city’s main drag, owner John Jones opted to close up shop in the summer. The property owner had opted to renovate and raise rent, he told the Times in June.
Anthropologie, a giant in the women’s apparel market, will mark its newest location with a private celebration to be held January 26. The store opens to the general public at 10 a.m. the next day.
The high-end retail company is owned by Urban Outfitters and sells home goods and gifts as well as clothing and accessories. Anthropologie got its start in Wayne, Pa. in 1992. Along with its new Alexandria location, Anthropologie also has two stores in Washington, including one in Georgetown.
