FOOD NOTES – Get you MoHo at the Morrison House


The Triple Crown, The Threepenny Opera, a triple playwhat do these things have in common? They are all classics of one sort or anotherand they all pay homage to that special number between two and four . Enter Chef Dennis Marron of Old Town’s The Grille at Morrison House to throw his hat trick into the ring.

Beginning Sunday, March 9th, Chef Marron will offer the Menu de Salon, a $40 three course prix fixe menu along with the a la carte offerings at The Grille. The menu which will change frequently on the chefs whim of the season, includes a choice of appetizers includes such mouthwatering starters as Liver & Onions–Garlic Marinated Chicken Livers, Braised Ciopollini Onions, Watercress Emulsion, Grilled Brioche; Braised Berkshire Pork Cheek, House Cured Brown Sugar Bacon, Roasted Shallot and Charred Frisee ; Waldorf Salad–Butter Lettuce, Apple, Red Flame Grapes, Toasted Walnuts and Celery Aioli and Celeriac Veloute with Spiced Peanuts, Curry Oil and Celery Foam.

Entrees are stand outs offering Chefs take on classics like Butter Poached Cod served with, Pearled Vegetables, Crispy Quinoa and Herb Vinaigrette; the B.L.T.–Braised Kurobuta Pork Belly, White Cheddar Polenta, Tomato Confit, Wilted Romaine with Warm Mayonnaise; Crispy Skate Wing with Prince Edward Mussels, Little Neck Clams, Melted Leeks, Saffron Broth; and Braised Veal Breast, Tourne Root Vegetables, Pomme Mousseline and Black Truffle Jus.

And for dessert, indulge in a choice of Pumpkin Bread Pudding with Cinnamon Ice-Cream, Bourbon Glace and Candied Walnuts or Profiteroles with Chocolate, Vanilla and Cinnamon Ice-Cream all nestled in a blanket of Warm Chocolate Sauce.

Both the Menu de Salon and The Grilles a la carte menu are based on local ingredients from the areas organic farmers, waters and earth.

The Grille is located in The Morrison House surrounded by the historic neighborhood of Old Town Alexandria and is open for breakfast: Monday – Friday: 7 10 am, Saturday & Sunday: 8 10 am; Brunch: Sunday 11 am 2 pm; Dinner: Sunday – Thursday: 6 -9 pm, Friday & Saturday: 6 10 pm.
