Thumbs up to Mayor Bill Euille (D) and challenger Andrew Macdonald (I) for engaging in a one-on-one debate last week. After much contention about whether and when to hold a separate mayoral debate, the two candidates gave Alexandrians a clear picture of their differences on issues from waterfront development to traffic congestion and the Beauregard redevelopment plan.

Thumbs up to this week’s cooler weather! While those three days of clouds were a bit gloomy – and yes, leaf raking isn’t particularly fun – feeling a chill in the air is so refreshing after the hot, humid summer we just endured. It’s time to go buy some pumpkins!

Thumbs down to the recent rash of political vandals in Alexandria. We all have the right to our opinions as free citizens, but destroying the property of others is not only wrong but illegal.

Thumbs up to Bittersweet Cafe that now transforms into Bittersweet DF in the evenings.  Owner Jody Manor, inspired by south of the border vacations, flew in chefs from a culinary institute in Mexico City to train his staff in preparing authentic Mexican cuisine.  So when the sun goes down, stop by for a michelada or sangria and enjoy a variety of Mexican entrees including Sopes, Gringas, Quesadillas and much more.
