Alexandria police search for unsuccessful robber

Alexandria police turned to the public Friday for help tracking down a man wanted for assaulting a store clerk during an attempted robbery on October 22.

The suspect walked into the 4670 Duke St. Shell Gas Station at 7:45 a.m. and ordered an employee to hand over cash. He implied having a weapon, police said, though that didn’t deter the clerk from fighting back and sending the man fleeing empty-handed.

Described as a black man in his mid-30s, about 5-foot-10 with a stocky build, the suspect was last seen retreating westbound on Duke Street on foot. He wore a gray, hooded sweatshirt and jeans during the attempted robbery.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the suspect to contact detective Sean Casey at the police department’s criminal investigations section at 703-746-6853.
