Spurring economic growth

To the editor:

I recently joined Delegate Rob Krupicka to meet with small businesses in Del Ray to discuss new ideas on how to make Virginia the best state for business and learn about how the sequester could impact them.

As the Washington foolishness continues and the sequester begins to kick in, Virginia families are facing real consequences. That includes companies that work directly with the federal government and local businesses that could see their customers decline.

It’s more important than ever that we come up with ideas and solutions at the state level that will help spur economic growth. The ideas I’ve heard include improving work force development through our community colleges, reducing red tape in Richmond, and building a more modern and efficient transportation system. Instead of ideological crusades, my No. 1 priority will be to grow Virginia jobs and businesses.

I look forward to continuing my conversation with small businesses in Alexandria and across the commonwealth.
