To the editor:

The kindergarteners were dressed in their best as they hosted their guests May 10 in James K. Polk’s multipurpose room. The girls looked lovely in their fancy dresses, hats and decorative gloves while the boys looked dapper in their dressy shirts with ties and suits. Their parents and grandparents — as well as school staff members, including principal PreeAnn Johnson — surrounded them. These students wrote and illustrated ABC books, which included a fun, fact-filled “about the author” page.

Guests rotated from tables as they listened to the students read their published books. Each guest had the opportunity to write a note to the authors in their special comment books. A special autograph book was given to each guest in thanks. A tea celebration through and through, the menu included assorted desserts and tea.

The students recited a poem to their mothers and presented them with decorated boxes filled with pictures of each author reading and/or writing throughout the school year. The hosts and hostesses this year were Mrs. Cox’s former kindergarten students.

A special thank you to former kindergarten parents: Betina Ferrari for donating the delicious fruit salad and taking photos and Lalla El Missouab for donating the scrumptious assortment of desserts.
