A Sunday evening shooting near the intersection of North Payne and Wythe streets has left one man hospitalized, police say.
Officers descended on the scene after receiving reports of multiple shots fired about 6:30 p.m. They quickly found a man suffering from an upper torso gunshot wound and took him to an area hospital.
He is in stable condition, officials said.
Though scant few details of the incident have been released, authorities were quick to note there is no known connection to the shooting death of Ruthanne Lodato. The 59-year-old music teacher was gunned down at her doorstep earlier this month and her killer remains at large.
“Though this investigation is in the initial phase, obvious differences in the crimes lead detectives to believe that these incidents are not connected,” officials said in a statement.
No arrests have been made in connection with the Port City’s latest shooting. Police urge anyone with information to contact detective Dan Gordon at 703-746-6685.
