The victim of a Thursday night shooting near St. Rita Catholic School in Arlandria died over the weekend, city police say.

Julio Caesar Urrutia-Erazo, 27, of Alexandria died of his injuries Saturday at a local hospital, said Alexandria Police Department spokeswoman Crystal Nosal.

Around 11:40 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 3800 block of Russell Road after reports of gunfire. Officers found Urrutia-Erazo suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, Nosal said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and was in critical condition Friday, Nosal said. Detectives said a preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting likely occurred after an argument between two groups of people.

Police are searching for a muscular man less than 30 years of age, about 5-feet-8-inches tall as a possible suspect. Officials said he has a shaved head and multiple tattoos on his arms.

Nosal said she had no additional information about the shooting Monday. Police are encouraging anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect to call detective Michael Rodriguez at 703-746-6165.

Urrutia-Erazo’s death marks the second homicide in Alexandria this year. The investigation into the shooting death of piano teacher Ruthanne Lodato in her home in February, which has been connected to two other unsolved killings in the city, is still ongoing. Police said they have narrowed their focus in that case to Charles Severance, a former resident and fringe political candidate currently held in Loudoun County on an unrelated weapons charge.
